EDUCATION:
Dr. Wendy Arnold's diverse training commenced with her B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh in 1994, where she earned two majors: Business Administration and Journalism. Her post-baccalaureate study included core science requirements for the application to medical school. She attended the Uniformed Services University, graduating with a medical degree in 2008. This school has 52 more credit hours required than most American medical schools to better prepare military physicians to care for troops with spartan logistics while working in developing countries. Additional training focused on entomology, parasitology and trauma training in simulated combat environments.

PHYSICIAN AND SURGEON:
Dr. Wendy Arnold has a unique approach to medicine that is both allopathic and therefore heavily evidenced based, yet integrative based on her dual board certifications.

She first earned board certification in family medicine in 2011. With this specialty, she has worked in the dynamic environment of full scope primary care. Full scope includes the fast-paced outpatient clinical environment, in addition to inpatient medicine to include critical care (ICU) patients. Wendy was selected during her residency to attend medical acupuncture training.

She also completed an obstetrical fellowship, which certified her to perform surgical deliveries of babies in addition to management of more complicated obstetrics. She earned a second board certification in Integrative Medicine. This dichotomous medical background influences her practice to understand and appreciate pharmaceuticals and surgeries but prefer behavior and other alternative approaches to health and wellness whenever possible.

She is recognized by her colleagues as an award-winning physician leader and a trailblazer in Navy medicine. She has been teaching other physicians to use integrative rather than pharmaceutical methods for treating various conditions.

LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE:
After completing Officer Candidates School, Wendy Arnold was commissioned a Second Lieutenant of Marines. She was selected to be the first student company commander for a class of 250 Lieutenants. Wendy established herself as a leader of peers in a competitive environment in which less then 7% of the class are selected for that billet.

She was selected to become a Series Commander and Executive Officer at recruit training. In this intense environment, she excelled at leading several teams of Drill Instructors.

In medical school, she was again selected for the top billet among her peers based on her last 10 years of leadership experience in the Marine Corps. She served again in the challenging position of peer leadership as the student Company Commander for the entire four years of medical school.

Following graduation from residency, Dr. Wendy Arnold was assigned with Marine Special Operations Command (MARSOC.) From there she deployed to combat as the Special Operations Task Force Surgeon for an area of operation close to 1/3 of the country of Afghanistan. While there she completed over 20 battlefield circulations were she had 100% accountability of controlled substances, completely over 600 acupuncture treatments and meticulously accounted for medical evacuations.

As junior faculty for a family residency, Dr. Wendy was selected for the position of Associate Program Director. In this capacity, she was responsible for the administrative oversight and mentorship for over 40 family medicine resident physicians.

Her current position in the Navy is as the Force Surgeon for the 1st Marine Logistics Group. In this job, she is the special staff advisor to the Commanding General (CEO equivalent) for all medical operational and readiness (deployability and wellness) issues for 8,500 personnel and an annual budget of $100 million.
